last night at lacrosse practice one of the high school girls that came was wearing this tee shirt that said, "i cant im mormon". all of the girls laughed about it and thought that it was really funny and a few said that they wanted one and one of the other girls on my team said that she wanted one that said "i wont im mormon". my respect for her instantly increased by a lot and she made a very good point. so i ask you now, what is your view on being a mormon, a catholic, or whatever religion you may be? do you think i cant im a mormon/catholic/etc, or do you think i wont im mormon/catholic/etc? and if your answer is that you cant what can you do to fix that?
“Whatever you choose, you might as well enjoy it. It is your choice.” -unknown
To be honest, I've never used the excuse 'I can't, I'm Mormon.' Or even 'I won't, I'm Mormon.'
ReplyDeleteI don't drink, not because I'm Mormon, but because there's a history of alcoholism in my family, and I've seen what can happen when people drink. I don't do drugs, not because I'm Mormon, but because I've taken certain medications that have forced me to experience that lack of control and awareness and it honestly SCARES me. Are you kidding me? I'm not about to do that kind of thing on purpose.
I have better reasons for doing or not doing things than 'because I'm Mormon.' Certain decisions that I've made have nothing to do with what religion I am and have everything to do with who I am. Even if I wasn't Mormon, the choices I've made would still be the same. Rather than have people say things like "Mormons don't do that" I want people to say "Ariana doesn't do that."
If that makes sense?
I like "I won't" just because it's my choice what I do. It's not my bishop's or my priest quorum adviser's, it's my decision.
